i have been a freelance photographer for 15 years. I had a studio on the west coast in a small art community, and then spent 5 years in the Panhandle of Florida photographing on the beach.
Recently, I took a hiatus. In order to see things differently, I wanted to explore new mediums. I'd picked up a camera at 38 without any experience, and opened a studio. I was so full of passion every time I looked thru the lens. I never questioned this was what I was supposed to do in my life.
But, at 53, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time. I have not been able to put it down. I fell in love, again. For me, painting is the "kissing" of art. Sensual, innocent, quiet, passionate. No orchestration necessary.
As a born and raised Southern Californian, water is always the inspiration. I am blessed to finally call Michigan "home". I also still love the Panhandle where I visit friends, sometimes work and taste the sunshine in early Spring and Fall.
As I've always said, it is because of my clients that I am able to live my life as an artist. I do not take one day of it for granted.
